  • Clementina's Cactus was commissioned by Meridee Stein for the First All Children's Theater, New York, and had its premiere and first run from December 23, 1983 through January 1, 1984 at the First ACT Theater in New York City with Arthur Masella directing. Clementina's Cactus received 9 performances in April, 1984 at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. as part of the Imagination Celebration (National Festival of Children's Arts).

  • "Manhattan has no shortage of children's theater; it has few showcases, however, for children who act and dance. The First All-Children's Theatre (FACT), founded and produced by Meridee Stein, recently launched its Books-On-Stage series to create new musicals for children ages two through ten. One of the series's best ventures is Clementina's Cactus, a dance drama with music by J.A.C. Redford, composer for the NBC series St. Elsewhere. What distinguishes Clementina's Cactus from other productions of its ilk is its high caliber of dancing: Four of the five dancers in the show are from the Joffrey Ballet School (Jennifer Jacino, Natalie Jovanovic, Liat J. Kaplan, and Giselle Lee-Tin). The production is unequivocally the most professional children's theater in New York, from the lighting to the costumes. FACT is already introducing its youngsters to professional dance, a testimony to the breadth of its repertory, which has also explored light opera and serious drama. This month the theater travels to the Kennedy Center to participate in its annual Imagination Celebration." (Dancemagazine, April 1984)
