Description
A
set of four unaccompanied inventions for two violins.
Difficulty:
4/5. Duration: 10' 30". String quartets could
pair Diminutiae with the viola and 'cello
arrangement of a contrasting work, Valse
Triste.
Program
Notes
While the Bach Inventions were its direct
antecedent, Diminutiae differs from them
in that it employs a starker, more contemporary
musical vocabulary and makes an intensely dramatic,
almost operatic statement, despite the diminutive
size of its two-person ensemble.
