Valse Triste (1980)

 

Description
An unaccompanied duo for 'celli. There is also a version for viola and 'cello. Difficulty: 4/5. Duration: 7 minutes. String quartets could pair the viola and 'cello version of Valse Triste with Diminutiae, a contrasting work for two violins.

Commission and Performance History
Valse Triste
was commissioned by Jerome Kessler and Andrea Chomsky, 'cellists, Los Angeles, California, and premiered on February 10, 1980 at Barnsdall Park in Los Angeles by Jerome Kessler and Andrea Chomsky. A live performance of the work was broadcast on November 7, 1982 over KFAC-FM, Los Angeles.
